Environmental Concern (NSTP 1st Seminar)

Last July 3, 2010, Saturday, we have attended a seminar four our NSTP-CWS subject. The speaker discussed about the NSTP Law, it's program components, the general and specific objectives, the Letran CWS Program and other components that build up the NSTP. A speaker from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) also discussed about the alarming issues that concerns our Mother Earth not only for today, but also for the future generations.
One of the most alarming environmental issue today is Climate Change. "We are facing a climate crisis, one that may seem to be happening slowly, but it is actually happening very quickly." Global warming is a serious problem not only for the Filipinos, but for the whole world. The scorching heat of the sun is not normal anymore; and this heat may cause more serious problems like heat waves, melting of ice caps on polar regions, rising of the sea level, drought, and even death. As for now, global wiarming is the most serious environmental problem the world is facing right now. Next to this is the problem regarding garbages and toxic wastes thrown anywhere, especially on rivers and other bodies of water. This human activity is bad for the health especially for those families who live near rivers and creeks; but they are the ones who were usually responsible for this. Then when the time comes that one of their family members became ill, they would blame the government for not helping them.
I think we cannot, or should I say, should not blame anything or anyone for these things except for ourselves. The seminar not only opened the eyes of each Letranite, but also made each one of us realize how serious the condition of our environment is. The government should launch projects and activities among schools, colleges, and universities to stand against Climate Change. They should encourage student leaders to join forces with them and encourage other students to fight against these environmental problems.
LET US STAND UP AND FIGHT AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE! :)
